COLLAGEN PLUS ELASTIN

My day cream already contains collagen – is that not enough?

Your day cream only provides the outer layers of the skin with the essential skin nutrient collagen. However, you will not reach the deeper layers of the skin with so-called topical skincare products which are applied externally. This is what makes the provision of our skin with nutrients that are taken in with the diet so important. Dr. Schneider Collagen Plus Elastin provides your body and thus also your skin with essential nutrients, such as vitamin C which plays an important role for the normal collagen formation of healthy skin. Our product is thus an excellent supplement to your day cream.

Have I got it right: Collagen firms the skin and elastin helps with elasticity?

In younger skin, collagen fibres and elastin fibres work perfectly together: The collagen makes the tissues stable and tensile, whereas the rubber-like elastin makes sure that the whole lot stays elastic. With age, however, the number of collagen and elastin fibres, as well as of the blood vessels, reduces. The cells of the outer skin divide only every 50 days – instead of every 25 days in its younger years. The result is that the skin and the subcutaneous fatty tissue become thinner, the water and fat content of the skin reduces and the typical signs of skin aging, such as wrinkles, increase. This means that additional support with vitamin C, which supports the normal collagen formation, makes sense from a certain age. The maintenance of the normal connective tissue is supported by the copper contained in the supplement and that manganese ensures normal formation of the tissue. Moreover, the product contains vitamin E and zinc which also help protect the cells from oxidative stress.

Will Dr. Schneider Collagen Plus also have an effect on the connective tissue of my thighs?

Collagen makes up almost 80% of the connective tissue per weight. With increasing age, collagen production decreases. After age 25, collagen synthesis declines by around 1.5% each year. By age 45, collagen levels may have seen reduction of up to 30%. When bioavailable collagen is taken orally, the collagen is distributed throughout the body. In addition, the vitamin C in Dr. Schneider Collagen Plus Elastin supports the natural formation of collagen, and the copper helps the maintenance of normal connective tissue.

KRILL OIL 500MG

Why is krill oil better than the normal fish oil?

Like fish oil, krill oil is a supply of the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA. However, in krill oil the two important fatty acids are found in a different molecule structure, as so-called phospholipids. Every cell in our bodies is surrounded by a cell wall made of phospholipids, so our bodies can process this molecule structure particularly well. This means that krill oil has a high level of bioavailability, i.e. the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are easier for the body to absorb as phospholipids and can be more easily used by it.

I take fish oil capsules and often experience a fishy burping or reflux throughout the day. I've heard that this doesn't happen with krill oil capsules. Is that true?

Many people know this uncomfortable feeling of "eructation" after taking normal fish oil capsules. This is due in particular to the fact that the fish oil floats in our stomachs like beads of fat on liquid and evaporates. Krill oil has a different molecule structure and occurs as a so-called phospholipid. This blends very quickly with the contents of the stomach and there is no upwards evaporation. Thanks to the phospholipid structure, the important fatty acids EPA and DHA are more rapidly absorbed by the body.

In contrast to fish oil, krill oil is dark red. Why is that?

In contrast to fish oil, krill oil contains the carotenoid astaxanthin. Astaxanthin is a very powerful antioxidant, many times more powerful than vitamin C or vitamin E. Astaxanthin is produced by algae that are eaten by the krill. The red colour of wild salmon can also be attributed to astaxanthin, which is said to enable it to swim the long journey against the stream. There are currently more than 1500 scientific publications on the excellent properties of astaxanthin. Dr. Schneider Krillöl 500 mg capsules contain considerably greater amounts of astaxanthin than many other krill oil products on the market. And the most special thing about it is that the astaxanthin also occurs as a phospholipid and can thus also be absorbed easily and rapidly by the body.

Is it true that krill oil comes from Antarctica?

Krill is fished in the Southern Ocean in and around the Antarctic. The seas there are the cleanest on earth. Our krill oil comes from sustainable fishing sources and is certified by both MSC (THE MARINE STREWARDSHIP COUNCIL) and FOS (FRIEND OF THE SEA). The origin of our raw materials is of absolute importance to us. With our Dr. Schneider Krillöl 500 mg, we even go one step further. With the help of GPS data, we can trace every pack back to the exact fishing ground.

Do Dr. Schneider Krillöl 500 mg capsules contain iodine?

Krill oil contains almost no iodine. Iodine is known mostly in seaweed products. No iodine salts or other compounds are added to Dr. Schneider Krillöl 500 mg capsules. Additionally, the krill oil used is subject to a sophisticated refining process meaning that no water-soluble or fat-soluble (i.e. organic) iodine compounds can end up in the product. Just as it is with all other foods, however, these elements are always present at harmless trace levels.

Are there risky levels of heavy metals in krill oil?

Our krill oil is tested intensively before all processing and are far below the European limits for heavy metals. Krill is fished in the Southern Ocean in the Antarctic where the water quality is extremely high and environmental pollution is still minimal. Moreover, krill is at the very bottom of the food chain and the accumulation of heavy metals is not as prevalent as in some fish oils.

Why should I take krill oil?

Independent scientists from the European authorities for food safety (EFSA) have investigated the positive effects of omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA on the health and have come to the following conclusion: "A 250 mg consumption of DHA and EPA contributes to normal heart function."

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung (German Society for Nutrition –DGE) wrote in its press release of August 2016:"... The regular consumption of fish – especially oily fish – can reduce the risk of fatal heart attacks, ischemic stroke and dyslipidaemia. The latter can be explained by the fact that regular consumption of fish reduces the concentration of triglycerides in the blood and raises the concentration of HDL cholesterol..."

The DGE recommends one to two portions of fish per week, of which 70g should come from oily fish such as salmon, mackerel or herrings. Unfortunately very few consumers in Germany manage this amount. Dr. Schneider Krillöl 500mg is therefore the simple way to fill the gap in the supply of omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA in the diet.

STRESS & RELAX

Will the product relax me?

Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax is intended to aid you in better mastering the demands of everyday life. When you are experiencing great pressure or stress in your private life or at work and frequently suffer from anxiety or irritation, the targeted intake of nutrients, for example with Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax, can have a positive effect. However, one should always try to relax no matter how great the stress and pressure is. Recovery and relaxation is very important, especially after times of stress. This is the only way for the body and mind to recuperate and accumulate fresh strength. Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax can be used to great effect also in this recovery phase for regeneration.

As a mother of three, I feel completely drained in the evenings, with no energy and utterly worn out. Can Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax help me?

A hectic lifestyle, stress, strain at work and at home often leads to feelings of physical and mental exhaustion. Our nervous systems and brains depend in these particular situations on a sufficient supply of nutrients. Selected vitamins and minerals can make a valuable contribution here. Independent scientists at the EFSA have confirmed that the nutrients iron, niacin and vitamin B12 that are contained in Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax can contribute to a normal energy metabolism and to a reduction in tiredness and exhaustion.

When should I take the product?

We recommend that you take our Dr. Schneider products together with a meal. In the case of Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax, breakfast is ideal so that your body is provided with the valuable nutrients it needs for the stressful day ahead. Try to make taking Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax part of your daily routine. We choose the blister-pack for the packaging of the product to make it easy for you to cut off a couple of capsules and take them with you, for example to the office or when you are travelling. We want to make supplementing your diet as simple for you as possible and specially developed a small, easy-to-swallow capsule.

I see that the capsule even contains vitamin C. Do I need them only when I'm ill?

Performance-related pressure, long-term stress and the obligation to get several things done at the same time trigger anxiety, restlessness and nervousness. We often go the extra mile to muster our last energy reserves in these stressful situations. When this constant strain is not interspersed with sufficient recovery breaks, illness is inevitable due to the increasing weakness of the immune system. It is often the case that we only see this once we enter a relaxation phase, e.g. when you have holiday and suddenly develop a cold. For this reason, we developed the Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax with an added 40mg of vitamin C per capsule in order to protect the cells from oxidative stress and to aid the normal functioning of the immune system.

Does Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax capsules contain gluten or lactose?

No, the capsule do not contain gluten or lactose and are also free of genetically-modified organisms.

I have heard that you use a special melissa extract. Is that true?

That's right. For Dr. Schneider Stress & Relax, we use a special melissa extract produced in Germany. Only the leaves of the melissa officinalis genus are used. The plants come from special cultivation areas in Germany that are subject to constant monitoring. The extract is produced very carefully by means of a so-called vacuum drying belt process so that the valuable secondary plant substances such as essential oils, polyphenols and rosmarinic acid are preserved.

BONE VITAL PLUS

I've been taking calcium for my bones for years. Isn't that enough?

It's a fact that the human body cannot form calcium by itself. This makes it necessary to take in calcium in the diet. The "National Nutritional Survey II" showed, however, that the average intake of calcium is below the daily amount of calcium recommended by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung (German Society for Nutrition). It is therefore recommended that the daily diet is supplemented with calcium. However, the latest research has shown that other essential nutrients aside from calcium must be taken, since otherwise the calcium cannot be used by the body. Specifically, the body requires vitamin D to be able to absorb the calcium at all. Vitamin K, especially vitamin K2, is just as important as the vitamin D for transporting the calcium out of the blood vessels and into the bones and thus optimising the build-up of calcium in the bones. For this reason, we advise against taking a pure calcium product and with the Dr. Schneider Knochen Vital Plus have developed a combi-preparation to optimise the build-up of calcium.

When should I start doing something for my bones?

Strong bones are essential for maintaining mobility and mastering everyday life. The strength of the bones changes with the aging process. Here, there bones act like a reservoir for calcium. The water level constantly rises and sinks. Our bones also undergo continual build-up and break-down processes. Up until the age of 35 or so, the build-up processes predominate. We need a lot of calcium particularly in our youth and the basis for later years is formed until the maximum bone density is reached at around age 30. After this point, the break-down processes predominate. With increasing age and through normal hormonal changes, particularly during the menopause, the break-down of bone material accelerates additionally and the bone density decreases. Thus it is important to supplement the diet across the entire lifecycle to ensure that the bones are provided with sufficient calcium. The earlier one starts, the better. Even when one begins in advanced years to take dietary supplements, it still makes sense because the break-down of bone material can be slowed.

I've never heard of two different vitamins K1 and K2.

There are even three groups of vitamin K, although few people understand the difference between the three. From a legal point of view, the product packaging doesn't have to differentiate between them. A distinction is made between:

  • Vitamin K1 or phylloquinone – can be found in various green plants and types of vegetables.
  • Vitamin K2 or menaquinone – can also be produced by bacteria in the human intestines in small amounts.
  • Vitamin K3 or menadione – this used to be employed as an artificial "provitamin K".

Only vitamins K1 and K2 are of practical import in the (human) metabolism.

The fat-soluble vitamin K is particularly well-known as an important nutrient for blood clotting and a vitamin K deficiency can lead to haemorrhaging. Scientists have discovered that there are other vitamin K-dependent metabolic processes in the body. It is a co-factor for the protein osteocalcin, a regulator of the mineralisation of the bones. Vitamin K2 has been scientifically examined for decades but the latest studies at the University of Maastricht have shown the enormous importance of vitamin K2 for bone health and have thus awoken the interest of other scientists. Vitamin K2 controls how calcium is stored and used in the body. Vitamin K thus contributes overall to the maintenance of healthy bones.

How can I determine if my bone density is the normal range?

These days, you can have your bone density checked at many chemists and pharmacies. This usually costs less than 15 euro. Measurement only takes a few minutes and is carried out at the ankle. The measurement will provide you with basic information and you can then decide if you should have a specialist DXA scan undertaken by a doctor to rule out osteoporosis. As soon as you know what the density of your bones is, you can also decide what steps to take next. The earlier, the better.

When is the diagnosis osteoporosis?

Osteoporosis is often recognised too late. In a quarter of cases, the diagnosis is made only after the first bone break. For this reason, one should regularly have bone density measured after a certain age, especially if the classic risk factors are in play or if there are several known cases of osteoporosis in the family. We speak of osteoporosis when the bones lose their stability, elasticity and fracture resistance caused by an unnatural, rapidly advancing loss of bone substance. This can lead to bones breaking under even normal, everyday stress.

Why are the Dr. Schneider Knochen Vital Plus capsules so small compared to other calcium products?

The "National Nutrition Survey II" has shown that the average intake of calcium is good but not yet sufficient. At Dr. Schneider, we want to close this gap and supplement the diet with calcium appropriately. Here, the right combination of minerals and the "use and absorption helpers" plays an important role in ensuring that the calcium is absorbed by the body and stored in the bones. "The more the better" is not always the right approach, and here it is "the right thing at the right time in the right place" that counts.

SKIN CARE PLUS WITH ARGAN OIL

I hear the term "argan oil" everywhere these days – what is it?

Argan oil is also known as "liquid gold from Morocco" due to its colour, uniqueness and high price. Argan oil is produced from the seeds of the argan tree (argania spinosa L. Skeels), which even today grows almost exclusively deep in the south-west of Morocco. The almond-like seeds contain up to 55% oil, of which up to 80% is made up of mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids. In procuring our argan oil, we place great value on sustainable agriculture. Many of the working steps required are carried out by hand, even today, in order to guarantee the high quality of the oil. When the argan tree fruits are ripe, they fall from the tree, are collected and dried out for several weeks in the sun. Then, the dried fruits are cracked open by hand. The argan nuts that are the result are then broken open further to produce the argan almonds for the oil pressing.

The argan oil used for Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial are carefully cold-pressed so that no nutrients are lost. The most important nutrients in argan oil include:

Mono and polyunsaturated fatty acids, phytosterols and squalene, tocopherol (vitamin E), polyphenols and triterpenes

Why is argan oil is also known as "liquid gold from Morocco"?

There are two good reasons why argan oil is also known as liquid gold from Morocco. The first of these is the bold yellow-brown colour, which is surely responsible for this metaphor. The second is, however, the oil's very high price which is due to the laborious manufacturing process. In Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl, we use a very valuable oil that is produced using traditional methods. Production is very time-intensive and laborious, and involves very much manual labour. The collected fruits are desiccated, peeled, and then the shell of the nut is cracked open to get at the seeds or almonds. These almonds are then ground and mechanically pressed, producing 1.5-2 litres of argan oil from around 100 kg of fruit. Around 55-60 hours of manual labour is required to produce this amount of oil.

Where does the argan oil come from?

The argan tree grows only in Morocco on the south-facing slopes of the High Atlas mountains and the north slopes of the western Anti-Atlas range, as well as the river basin of the Massa and Souss rivers between these. This region is known as Arganeraie and includes six provinces (Essaouira, Taroudant, Agadir Ida-Outananane, Inezgane Ait Melloul, Chtouka Ait Baha and Ziznit). Because of its uniqueness, the area was declared a biosphere reserve and has been a UNESCO world heritage site since 1999. Despite this, the argan tree is still threatened with extinction.

How often or when should I take the product?

Just as in a daily skincare routine with a day cream, we recommend taking one capsule per day of the Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl with a meal. We like to call it the daily beauty care from the inside. Try to incorporate it into your daily routine. To make it easier, we have selected a small, easy-to-swallow capsule. The blister packaging also makes it easy for you to cut a few capsule off and take them with you in your handbag to the office or on holiday.

The capsules are so small – does this have a particular reason?

We develop our products taking the latest scientific findings into consideration and always try to select the technically most sensible but also the most innovative dosage formats for our products. In particular with Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl, we have managed to pack a variety of valuable ingredients into a very small and easy-to-swallow capsule. This makes daily consumption and thus daily skin care even easier.

How long do I have to take Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl?

Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl capsules are a dietary supplement and can be taken indefinitely. We have developed our product in a way that makes it easy to incorporate consumption of the capsule into your daily routine. Just like your daily beauty routine with day cream, you can take can take care of your beauty from the inside. The riboflavin protects your cells from oxidative stress and the biotin helps maintain healthy hair and skin.

From what age do you recommend taking Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl?

SIt's really never too early to start providing your skin with additional nutrients. The skin is our largest organ and should also be paid the most attention. Just as we start early to pamper our skin from the outside with lotions and creams, we should also begin early to support our skin from the inside. Skin aging is strongly influenced by external factors in particular. The most severe risk factors are UV rays from sunlight and cigarette smoke, which can lead to so-called free radicals, free oxygen radicals (ROS) or generally to oxidative stress, and thus damage the cells. Antioxidants such as the riboflavin contained in Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl can protect the cells from oxidative stress.

Is the product halal?

Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl contains animal ingredients only in the gelatine shell. Halal certificates have been issued for the cow gelatine used.

ALOE VERA BEAUTY INSTANT DRINK

Where does the aloe vera in Dr. Schneider Aloe vera Beauty Drink come from?

Several species of plant are classified together under the "aloe" genus name. Although there are something like 400 sub-species, one particular species stands apart and has been well-known for centuries for its imputed qualities. Scientists have now been able to identify and verify more than 200 compounds in the plant. We're talking about aloe vera barbadensis miller, named after the English botanist M. Miller.

Scientists fail to agree on the exact origin of the aloe vera plant. Somewhere in Africa – between South Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. In the meantime, aloe vera is cultivated worldwide in subtropical regions.

For Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera, we decided on a special aloe vera extract from the original homeland of the plant and have found a top-class manufacturer in South Africa who produces aloe vera products of the highest quality thanks to sustainable agriculture and organic cultivation.

Which parts of aloe vera are used? There are differences, right?

For Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera, only the so-called fillets of the leaves are used: the gel bodies. After harvesting the outer leaves, these are carefully peeled. The leaf marrow is processed gently to produce an extract that is 200 times concentrated. it is very important that only the inside of the leaves of the aloe vera plant is used in the processing, since certain plant substances such as anthranoides (e.g. aloin) are contained in the outer layers of the leaves that may not exceed certain legally prescribed levels due to their side-effects. Cheap dietary supplements or imports from third-party countries often use the whole leaves for cost reasons.

I heard that the instant drink tablets are produced using a special process. Is that true?

That's right. For the production of the Dr. Schneider range, we always try in the development of the product to use the best technologies for the products and to select the optimal dosage format, which may differ depending on the nutrients contained, formula, therapeutic area and target group. For Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera, we decided on producing an instant drink tablet in a so-called fluidised bed spray granulation process. This is a very specialised process and sets the product apart from cheaper effervescent tablets. The advantage is rapid dissolution in a glass of water as well as, in particular, the gentle and protective processing of the active ingredients such as the delicate vitamins and the aloe vera extract. The process also achieves a special aroma profile.

How many calories does a tablet have?

Dissolved in 200 ml of water, Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera contains around 39kJ/9 kcal. In comparison, a 200 ml glass of apple juice contains around 386 KJ/92 kcal.

Are artificial colourings used?

No, we have purposefully avoided the addition of artificial colourings. The lovely pink colour in Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera comes from the addition of the natural food colouring beet red. Beet red is a naturally-occurring red food colour that is extracted from beetroot.

Can I combine the product with Dr. Schneider Haut Spezial mit Arganöl?

Since, as a dietary supplement, Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera is a foodstuff in the broadest sense, you can always combine it with other foodstuffs or other dietary supplements.

My day cream contains aloe vera – does it make sense to take Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera as a beauty drink, too?

Caring from your skin from the inside as well as the outside is always the best solution. There are a lot of reasons why you should combine your aloe vera day cream with Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera. With topical care products, you will only reach the outer layers of the skin whereas you can provide your entire body with nutrients when you take them orally. There are numerous studies involving the nutrients contained in Dr. Schneider Aloe Vera and their positive results – vitamin A for example plays an important role in the maintenance of healthy skin. In addition, biotin also supports the maintenance of healthy hair. Through the additional provision of moisture to the whole organism, our instant beauty drink also provides hydration for our skin.

CARDIO PRO PLUS VITAMIN B1

Does Herz 1x1 help with high blood pressure?

If you suffer from high blood pressure, you definitely must discuss a therapeutic approach with the attending doctor. High blood pressure counts as a major risk factor for a number of serious illnesses. However, blood pressure can also be positively influenced by natural means. Here, a major role is played by the diet and an active lifestyle incorporating daily sport – ideally out in the fresh air – and a positive attitude. In the case of only slightly raised blood pressure, a positive change in lifestyle can mean that less medication or even, ideally, none at all is required. An important nutritional tip is, for example, to cut down on salt. Up to 75% of people with raised blood pressure suffer according to age from a so-called salt-sensitivity. In these cases, the blood pressure levels can depend on the amount of salt consumed. You can test whether or not this is the case with you by simply following a low-salt diet and observing how your blood pressure levels change. The first effects should be apparent after two weeks.

You can also enrich your diet with certain nutrients which have a positive effect on the blood pressure and the heart function in general. The European authorities have even published official health-related statements based on scientific studies. Thus it has been confirmed by the authorities that the omega-3 fatty acids DHA and EPA can contribute to the maintenance of a normal blood pressure level. The positive effect sets in at a daily dosage of 3 mg EPA and DHA. With 250 mg of EPA and DHA, one capsule of Dr. Schneider Herz 1x1 makes a contribution to this required 3g.

What does the homocysteine level have to do with it?

Studies have already shown many years ago that elevated levels of the amino acid homocysteine in the blood can accompany an increased rate of heart attacks, strokes and circulatory defects in the extremities. In many cases it was shown that elevated homocysteine levels could be positively influenced simply using vitamins. In particular, scientists investigated the combination of folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. These vitamins were therefore often recommended by doctors in the past to protect against heart attacks if elevated homocysteine levels were detected in blood tests.

The European authorities have also analysed the scientific studies and made health-related assertions for folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12, and have confirmed that these vitamins aid a normal homocysteine metabolism. We have therefore decided that these vitamins must also be contained in an appropriate concentration in the Dr. Schneider Herz 1x1.

What are the typical risk factors for heart complaints?

A distinction is made between risk factors that can be influenced and those that cannot.

Risk factors that cannot be influenced are:

  • Age (risk increases with age)
  • Gender (the risk is greater for men)
  • Family history (genetic predisposition)

Risk factors that can be influenced are:

  • Excess weight (particularly in the case of a high body mass index – BMI)
  • High blood pressure
  • High blood lipid values (cholesterol)
  • Raised homocysteine levels
  • Smoking
  • Excessive consumption of alcohol
  • Diabetes mellitus type II
  • Stress
  • Insufficient physical activity

People with marked characteristics of the above-listed risk factors (e.g. heavy smokers) belong to the high-risk groups for a heart attack, particularly when several risk factors are present in combination. Patients with known coronary disease or post-heart attack condition as well as patients with arteriosclerosis also belong to the group of people severely at risk.

What does arteriosclerosis have to do with the heart?

When there is a build-up of fat and so-called plaque in the arteries, we call this arteriosclerosis. Arteriosclerosis can appear in all arteries. This alters the walls of the vessels, which become thicker and harder. With increased build-up of plaque, the inner diameter of the blood vessels becomes smaller. This means that the blood can no longer flow freely through them. Depending on the severity, circulation problems can arise and the artery can be blocked completely in the worst case. The result is an infarction.

These circulatory disorders appear particularly often in the heart and the cerebral arteries. Arterial calcification in the heart is thus the main cause of cardiovascular disorders such as heart attacks or heart failure. When plaque builds up in the arteries of the brain, the result can be a stroke. Approximately 50% of all deaths in the western world are caused by arterial calcification.

An elevated homocysteine level is described as a major risk factor for arteriosclerosis. Nutrients such as the folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 contained in Dr. Schneider Herz 1x1 contribute to a normal homocysteine metabolism. The omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA are also said to have a positive effect on the blood lipid levels (blood triglycerides values). This positive effect sets in at a daily dosage of 2 mg EPA and DHA. With 250 mg of EPA and DHA, one capsule of Dr. Schneider Herz 1x1 makes a contribution to this required 2g.
